HTC is pretty excited about the future as it feels that worldwide, its strength has been in delivering 3G handsets and once 3G comes to India, HTC will have an advantage. But competitors like Nokia start off with the compelling advantage of scale as well as market intelligence. Divender Kishore, Marketing Director, Nokia informs, “Nokia currently has 30 handsets, which are 3G enabled as we are all set for the future.” On the contrary HTC, which claims 3G to be its pillar of support currently has only three handset models – Touch Dual, Tytn II & Touch Cruise – which are 3G ready. HTC is waiting with bated breath for the launch of 3G, after which, it plans to get in as many as 7-8 new models for the Indian customers. Yet, it might stand to lose customers who would be looking to buy a 3G-enabled phone in the next six-eight months.

Another important factor about HTC has been the partnership that it has formed with its vendors like Microsoft and this partnership has enabled the company to offer highly advanced office features on the handset. “HTC currently stands to be a part of the paradigm shift in mobile phones with its partnership with Google, which would definitely help in making this handset maker something to watch out for,” informs Makhani. This move also shows how HTC has been keen to move with the changing times and offer its patrons the best in the technological space. The tie up with Google is the primary factor that works in HTC’s favour. It’s perhaps the most compelling reason why everyone’s talking about HTC. What is needed is an aggressive push to make all that buzz translate into robust market share gains.
